Ed Olive's Animation Portfolio
All About me.
I am a classically trained animator turned 3D Artist, working within the animation and visual effects industry for the past eight years. I have a good combination of artistic and technical ability, which I feel is essential within the industry today. Working on various productions varying from children’s TV to dinosaur documentaries, in roles ranging from Animator to Assistant Director.
I got my first big break as an animator for 422 South in Bristol, on a series of dinosaur documentaries for the National Geographic Channel. After this I went back to university to study an MA in 3D Animation at the NCCA in Bournemouth. This gave me the skills to broaden my outlook on the world of animation, and tackle all aspects of CGI.
Armed with my new found knowledge I packed my bags and headed for the Big Smoke, and a position as a Maya Artist on a brand new children's TV series called The Hive. This cemented my love for children's production, and took me right back to my own childhood and the reason I first aspired to enter the animation industry.
After The Hive I worked on more short term projects as a freelancer, in and out of many different design and animation studios waiting for my next big break. This came in an unexpected role as 3D Artist for Zappar, a little know start up augmented reality developer. My role was to create animated content from the design stage, all the way through to the final product. This was hugely satisfying, especially as Zappar are such an off the wall company with a great sense of cartoony design.
Leaving Zappar was a very hard decision, but after being contacted by Collingwood O'Hare, asking me to become their CGI Supervisor for a new children's TV series called Ruff Ruff Tweet and Dave, I couldn't resist. This position was a big step in my carer, and I relished the opportunity to have such a pivotal role for such a great studio. In this role I was able to learn a lot and take on an assisting role in the animation direction. Collingwood O'Hare have won 6 BAFTAs over the years, so I was honoured to just be let inside the building!
Following on from my reintroduction into children's TV I went to help out Absolutely Cuckoo with the development of their new show Wissper as a 3D Character Artist, and soon after progressed to a role as their Assistant Director for the series in which I gained many skills to further my artistic and directorial career.
